Fishers Island School is proud to host the Venture Smith: American exhibit on our school grounds through June 2024. The exhibit was set up through partnership with the Venture Smith Project (www.venturesmith.org) and the Henry L. Ferguson Museum to tell the story of Venture Smith who overcame slavery.
"Venture Smith is now the most documented survivor, and iconic symbol, of the Middle Passage to the Americas. The Documenting Venture Smith Project, drawing on 20 years of research, has created this international traveling exhibit telling venture’s story and the larger narrative of the British Slave Trade to its North American colonies. Venture Smith lived on Fishers Island from 1740 to 1755”
