On Sunday, September 13, 2015, twelve Spanish exchange students met
their host families and embarked on a two-week visit to Fishers Island.
The guests stayed at Fishers Island School students’ family
homes on the island and the mainland and attended classes and
discovered all that Fishers Island had to offer.
Fishers Island School Spanish teacher Ms. Christine Anifantakis
assisted Principal/Superintendent Mrs. Karen Goodwin over the
summer months with the details of the exchange. Ms. Anifantakis and Mrs.
Jen Burns then took several of our 11th and 12th graders to the coastal port city of over 200,000
residents in northern Spain on the Atlantic Ocean where they attend
school at Santa María del Mar in
February 2016 for a two-week trip wrapped around February break and
Presidents’ Day. There, the students and chaperones experienced all that the Spanish culture had to offer.
The students described this trip as "one-of-a-kind" and "remarkable" and Ms. Anifantakis hopes to continue this trip in future years.
