The 3rd and 4th graders class has been exploring boat design by making predictions and comparing their predictions to their actual results. Students drew boats and were given a 30cm x 30cm piece of aluminum foil and 5 toothpicks to construct their boat based off of their design.
Once boats were constructed, students tested them to see if they would float. Next they made predictions about how many pennies their boats could hold before they would sink.
All students generated a scientific table to record each boat design, predictions and then each student tested out their boat with the results recorded. Once the results were recorded students then created bar graphs comparing one another's results.
Up next, students will modify their designs to enable their boats to carry more pennies. Congratulations to Kloe, Sawyer, Bella, Cornelia, Anthony, Maddie and Griffin!
