The Fishers Island School is currently seeking a 1.0 FTE Computer Science Teacher and a 1.0 FTE Technology Education teacher to begin the 2019-2020 school year.

1.0 FTE Computer Science (K-12)

Start Date- August 28, 2019

Responsibilities:

  • Building a classroom culture in which students love computer science

  • Motivating students to think critically and take ownership over their own learning

  • Developing strong relationships with parents and students, creating investment in school culture and academics

  • Teach courses in computer skills, typing, computer applications, coding, robotics and programming.

  • Promote, support and model creative and innovative thinking and inventiveness

  • Design, develop and evaluate learning experiences incorporating effective, contemporary tools and resources to develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes identified in the NY state and national standards

  • Customize and personalize learning activities to address students’ diverse learning styles, working strategies, and talents

  • Enable all students to pursue individual interests and become active participants in setting their own educational goals and managing their own learning

  • Promote and model digital citizenship and responsibility

  • Continuously improve professional practice, model lifelong learning, and exhibit school leadership by promoting and demonstrating the effective use of technological tools and resources

  • Collaborate with staff around the use of technology including; best practice, curriculum integration and student acceptable use.

Requirements- Eligibility for NY State Certification as a Computer Science/Technology Education Teacher

1.0 FTE Technology Education Teacher (Grades 7-12)

Responsibilities:

  • Promote, support and model creative and innovative thinking and inventiveness

  • Engage students in exploring real-world issues and solving authentic problems using digital tools and other resources

  • Design, develop and evaluate learning experiences incorporating effective, contemporary tools and resources to develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes identified in NY state and national standards

  • Customize and personalize learning activities to address students' diverse learning styles, working strategies, and talents

  • Enable all students to pursue individual interests and become active participants in setting their own educational goals and managing their own learning

  • Exhibit STEM and ISTE knowledge, skills, and work processes representative of an innovative professional in a global and digital society

  • Promote and model digital citizenship and responsibility

  • Continuously improve professional practice, model lifelong learning, and exhibit school leadership by promoting and demonstrating the effective use of technological tools and resources.
